Coursework

Ph.D. Program in Counseling Psychology and School Psychology

Curriculum Plan

The following schedules list CPSP required courses and illustrate the typical five-year programs of study for both concentrations. We accept students who have prior graduate work in psychology and counseling related fields, allow applicable transfer credit, which is determined by a review of course syllabi, and outline the subsequent curriculum plan with the student upon admission. Based on the amount of transfer credit, the length of the program may be reduced commensurately.

All required courses must be taken for a letter grade. Electives may be taken pass/fail. Electives appropriate for CP students who wish to work with children/adolescents include: Behavioral Therapy with Children & Adolescents or Counseling with Children & Adolescents. SP students may wish to consider Advanced Counseling Theories or Advanced Practicum in Counseling Psychology. Note that some schedule changes are inevitable each year as the department manages faculty appointments, sabbaticals, and other needs. Additionally some courses are not offered every year but rather occur on a rotating basis.
