Master's-level study in science education prepares adolescence-level teachers in biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics. Students who have initial certification at the adolescence level can elect for an Ed.M. which qualifies them for professional certification at the middle school child and adolescence levels. In addition, students in programs in early childhood or childhood education may choose to concentrate studies in science. Doctoral study in science education provides additional qualifications for administrative and research positions, as well as for teaching science and science education at the college level. The science education program is enhanced by the faculty's involvement in current developments in science education both in the United States and abroad. The unique sequence of research experiences and courses in the programs includes science curriculum, science instruction, measurement and evaluation of science instruction, and a research seminar. Coursework includes areas such as science, technology, and human values supplements the core program.
