Internship

You must successfully complete 9 credit hours of internship. You may distribute the internship to include different experiences. Each internship experience must be selected in consultation with the program director and must be approved by your advisor.

You are required to complete a minimum of 3 credits of college teaching, which will provide experiences that include syllabus writing, creating lessons plans, presenting lectures and quiz/test construction. While teaching, you are required to be registered for CEP 594 Teaching Practicum, where you will be mentored and receive feedback, evaluation and supervision.

The Department of Counseling, School and Educational Psychology offers a number of undergraduate courses, and our students regularly have opportunities to teach or co-teach these courses. In addition, there are a number of area colleges who work with our department to place students in college courses for internship credit. Occasionally, students are fortunate to be hired as adjunct professors at area colleges and be paid for their college teaching. All internship experiences must be approved prior to the student beginning the experience. Additional internship experiences may be in counseling, research, administration, or clinical supervision, depending on the student's background and career goals.
