Joint Doctoral Program in
We envision the Joint Doctoral Program in Special Education to be a nationally recognized Center of Excellence that provides leadership on all levels to prepare and support practitioners who serve schools and children in high needs districts. We expect that faculty and graduates of this program will be sought after for their knowledge and expertise in the areas of special education research, policy, and practice. Specifically,
- This program’s reputation will continue to attract a diverse pool of full-time doctoral students of a high caliber from across the country and beyond.
- These students will have multiple opportunities to conduct research in high needs districts and become prepared to teach and advise future teachers.
- Graduates of the program will conduct research and provide leadership to help others apply this knowledge in the field.
To achieve these goals, we envision that the number of full time program faculty will be increased and that they will be engaged in research, service, teaching, writing, advising, mentoring, and obtaining external resources to support these efforts.
