LIS GSA Mentoring Program
Practitioner-to-Student Mentoring Program - The practioner-to-student mentoring program connects library school students to practicing professionals in the field.
A mentor can be a valuable resource for a student. Knowing someone in the field who can offer advice and guide one's professional development is helpful. Some of the things a mentor can provide are:
- Professional development -- Have questions on a career path? Want to know what kind of workshop shops you should take? Want to know which professional associations to join?
- Professional networking -- A mentor can be a connection between you and others in the field. Whether showing you around at a conference or offering advice, a mentor can help you make connections.
- A career mentor -- LIS GSA hopes that the mentoring relationships that start here become a lasting one that will help mentees develop throughout their career, not just while in school.
LIS GSA will collect mentor applications and maintain a database of contact information. When students apply, LIS GSA will pair them with a mentor and facilitate contacts. LIS GSA hopes to hold regular mentoring events where all mentors and mentees can meet and network.
Mentee Application (LIS GSA will wait until we have collected a minimum of mentor applications before opening mentee applications.)
