Lesson Ideas / Sample Videos

iLife This site presents the winning participants of the Apple iLife Educator Awards, a contest created to recognize the most innovative uses of iLife (including iMovie) in the classroom.

iMovie An introduction to what iMovie can do.

The Video Guide is a resource for both students and teachers to use as they explore the world of video. It includes advice sheets, activities, glossaries, and more, useful whether you're just getting started or have already been using a video camera for a while.

thinkbright.org WNED TV has produced a website that offers streaming videos you can download on demand. They have lesson ideas broken down by subject and grade level. You need to register, but the site is completely free. My district obtained one password for our entire staff. I hope you find it helpful. [submitted by Linda Guardino]

JustThink.org Youth media resources, ideas, and examples. It also has an alternative media list to gelp students garner ideas and resources at the same time. There's an awesome video entitled "Hip Hop Is..." that you should check out. Students can get a better feel for not only what DV can do, but what students like themselves can do with it. Their curriculum, however, is designed for grades 4-8 but it can be easily extended for high school students. [submitted by Gary Huber]

Media Literacy

medialit.org This is a comprehensive website from the Center for Media Literacy. Tons of useful resources for teachers, including a resource catalog, professional development, a newsletter, etc. [submitted by Andrienne Costello]

This website demonstrates the role of iMovie production in developing middle grades students media literacy. [submitted by Aaron Constanini]

Source images and footage

The Internet Archive is a non-profit site dedicated to supplying researchers, historians, et cetera with a digital database of files. On this site you can find thousands of .mov files, audio files, and a myriad of other resources that can easily be imported into iMovie as stock footage. This invaluable resource has old commercials, educational videos, concerts, and
countless other files that could easily supplement not only iMovies, but your curriculum as well. What history teacher couldn't use original WWII footage? What English teacher couldn't take a look at character education videos from the 50's. Great stuff at this
site. [submitted by Joel Malley]

www.metacrawler.com An extraordinary web site due to its effective and powerful image searches. One of my students, upon my prompting, offered me the website as one helpful in her own mother's research. After spending an entire study hall navigating, I quickly found that she was correct. I did a search for September 11, having needed several images for last project, and those offered by metacrawler were by far, better [submitted by Carrie Dugan]
