Science Exploration Day is for students from Western New York school districts. Our goal is to "tune them in to science", so they will continue to enroll in science classes and consider further study in the mathematics, science, engineering, and medical fields.
Each student will see the Keynote Speaker, one of several Large Group speakers, and two small group sessions or lab tours. Keynote speakers in the past have presented the "state of the art" in topics, like Forensics, Mars Exploration, and the Cold World of Cryogenics. Many of the presenters are from UB and other local colleges and universities, as well as companies (eg. PRAXAIR) and agencies (eg. Fish and Wildlife Service). These sessions are excellent supplements to the topics studied in the high school science courses. Students have an opportunity to request which small group sessions and lab tours they prefer to attend.
The Day occurs on the North Campus of UB, beginning 8:25 am and concluding by 1:05 pm. The date selected is during the UB mid semester break, so we almost "have the campus to ourselves".
For 2010, the date is Wednesday, March 10th.
Keynote Speaker will be announced Early 2010!
