Requirements for Admission

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and must submit:

  • Transcripts of previous academic work
  • Two letters of reference
  • A personal statement addressing the applicant’s professional goals
  • Online application showing legal residency at least 60 miles from the University at Buffalo campus (or complete the online application section requesting a statement of inability to attend on-campus courses)
  • A $50 non-refundable application fee in US currency, either by check, money order, or electronically along with the online application. If you choose to pay by check or money order, please make it payable to "State University of New York at Buffalo".

Application Deadline
You are encouraged to apply as soon as possible as we have a limited number of spaces available. Our deadline for applications is February 1st, however, if you submit your application before the deadline you may be notified of your status earlier. Once spaces are filled, the remaining applicants who are accepted into the program will be placed on a waiting list.

Financial Aid

A limited number of scholarships are available from the department, with the number and amount varying from year to year. Students are also encouraged to obtain part-time work in libraries in their communities.
