Facilities & Resources

UB has 9 libraries with 3.7 million print volumes, 30,000 periodical subscriptions, and 10,000 multi-media materials.

Our largest libraries are the Lockwood Memorial Library and Oscar A. Silverman Library. These feature arts and sciences materials, as well as course reserves, reference assistance and periodicals.

Our specialized libraries include an Architecture and Planning Library, Poetry Collection, Music Library, Health Sciences Library, the Charles B. Sears Law Library, and Special Collections which feature the largest collection of James Joyce materials in the world.

UB Libraries on social media include a Pinterest page and a YouTube page, as well as networks on Twitter and Facebook.

UB features a technologically forward-thinking campus with:

  • Classrooms equipped for video conferencing and presentations incorporate online students into real-time classrooms, and allow library professionals to present remotely from around the world.
  • 400+ computers, including 3 GSE-specific computer labs, and printing facilities available to students.
  • GSE Technology and Data Analysis labs are available to students working on special projects or technological assistance.

The LIS Student Lounge is open to all LIS students for meetings and networking. Students can often be found there before class, helping each other with assignments and brainstorming new approaches to library related topics. The lounge also features a fridge, microwave and coffee maker for students’ convenience. The lounge is located on the 5th floor of Baldy Hall (543). Students are welcome to ask anyone in the LIS department office for the door code (or just knock!).
