LIS 524 School Media Center Field Experience (3)


This course is clinically-based and provides students with the opportunity to learn from an experienced school library media specialist in their area. Content and pedagogy are woven around their clinical experiences in an elementary and secondary school. Coursework includes readings and group discussions on emerging topics in the field. Students develop a base of knowledge to build upon throughout the remaining program.

This course fulfills the mandated 100 hours of field experience in preK-12 libraries for NYS initial certification. This course is constructed based on the Standards for the 21st Century Learner and the American Association of School Libraries competencies for school library media specialist preparation programs. Students are advised to register for this course within their first year. This course is a prerequisite for LIS 532 and LIS 585.
