LIS 566 Digital Information Retrieval (3)


Emphasis is twofold: the conceptual understanding of basic information retrieval system structures and advanced skills in searching a variety of digital information resources. Topics covered include information retrieval system structure, user modeling, resource selection, search strategies and tactics, evaluation, ethics in searching, and the role of information professionals in the online world. Students develop practical search skills through exercises using a variety of tools including commercial databases, as well Web search engines and directories. Credits: (3). Prerequisite: LIS 518
