About The School
Welcome to the Graduate School of Education (GSE) at the University at Buffalo (UB), State University of New York.
Since 1931 when GSE was established, over 18,000 students have graduated and moved on to successful careers as university presidents and administrators, principals, superintendents, psychologists, counselors, information specialists, librarians, teachers, faculty, and outstanding researchers. Our alumni are found in their professions literally all over the world.
In GSE, we have envisioned four pillars of distinction to propel our school to academic excellence consistent with the university's Realizing UB 2020 goals (GSE Four Pillars of Distinction, May 2014). Knowledge is increasing today at a rate never seen before in our history. Because of our research, GSE’s curriculum and programs stay ahead of the curve, making our graduates well prepared to meet 21st century challenges.
GSE houses four departments: Counseling, School, and Educational Psychology (CSEP), Educational Leadership and Policy (ELP), Learning and Instruction (LAI), and Library and Information Studies (LIS). Our award-winning faculty are engaged in groundbreaking research in a wide range of educational issues. As a student you will be part of an intellectual community that is vibrant and challenging, a place where research and practice come together to meet the highest standards.
In GSE, you will be part of one of the best public universities in the northeastern United States. We are a diverse campus that for 11 years in a row has been among the top 20 U.S. institutions for hosting international students. Ranked as one of the "most wired" campuses in the country, UB provides access to extensive computing technology such as campus-wide wireless access, online library and student services, free email and internet access, hardware and software support, workshops, public computing labs, and 24/7 technical support.
I invite you to explore and learn about everything that UB and GSE can offer to help you achieve your educational and professional goals.
Welcome to GSE!
